Употребление этих выражений зависело от степени близости отношений между корреспондентами. Многие из этих вариантов исчезли из современной переписки. Раньше в Англии издавали книги, откуда можно было узнать, как правильно обращаться к директору школы, архиепископу, врачу, члену парламента и т. п.
